Over the past few years, motorbike/scooter sneakers have made their appearance on the market. Gone are the days of big motorcycle boots for meeting friends at the bistro or going to the movies. Manufacturers have clearly understood that on short trips, we go out in sneakers or light shoes. So they've taken existing standards and added motorcycle-specific safety features.

Frequently asked questions
Here are the most frequently asked questions to help you choose your motorcycle equipment, helmet or accessory.
-
Can I take my motorcycle license in basketball?
Since the reform of the driving license in 2013, future candidates for the A (Motorcycle) license are obliged to wear a CE EPI approved helmet, jacket, motorcycle gloves and riding boots. Leave your converse or Nike air shoes in the closet, it would be a shame to get recalled for that. The motorcycle sneakers you use during your driving test must be approved for motorcycling.

How to choose your motorcycle sneakers?
The first factor is always the look. For that, we'll let you choose, and you'll be spoilt for choice. They range from converse-style motorcycle sneakers, to dressier work sneakers, to sportier versions inspired by today's fashion.
Material? Leather or textile motorcycle sneakers. Leather is less breathable than textile, but classier and more durable. For a summer motorcycle sneaker, opt for textile.
Waterproofing? If you're looking for a waterproof pair of motorcycle sneakers, opt for Gore-Tex. You'll have a highly breathable, 100% waterproof motorcycle sneaker.
Protection? Today's motorcycle sneakers must be CE and PPE approved (Directive 89-686-CEE on PPE). If the sneaker you're looking for isn't EPI-certified, it's sportswear, even if it's got a motorcycle brand on it.
Protective features to consider in a motorcycle sneaker:
- Stem height
- Malleolus protection,
- Reinforced forefoot (instep) and heel.
- Anti-slip, hydrocarbon-resistant sole
- Anti-rollover and anti-crushing lateral sole.
How to choose your size?
If you have a strong foot, avoid models that are too thin. You'll find the instep uncomfortable. Start with your usual size, unless the product data sheet tells you that it fits small or large. If you're between 2 sizes, it's best to go for the next size up. Don't forget that our feet swell when we're active.
