  • What is the PPE standard for motorcycle equipment?

First of all, what does the acronym PPE stand for? PPE stands for Personal Protective Equipment. It all starts with the CE marking on our motorcycle gear, which verifies that the garment you're wearing has been authorized for sale on the European market as protective equipment. CE certification stipulates that the equipment must comply with Directive 2016-425, which lists PPE.

There are 2 types of PPE:

    • Category 1 PPE concerns activities presenting a minor hazard. Product certification is carried out by the manufacturer and does not require independent laboratory testing.
    • Category 2 PPE comprises equipment for activities presenting a significant risk. This category is certified only after inspection by an independent laboratory.

Gloves, jackets, pants, protectors and boots are all PPE, and as such must pass tests and offer a minimum level of protection for your motorcycle equipment. Of course, some brands are happy to comply with the standard, while others go beyond it to offer you the very best in current protection. You'll find details of the various standards and tests in our blog article on homologation.

  • Do you have clothes in small or large sizes?

Yes, we have a whole range of plus-size products: plus-size jackets and pants. It's worth noting that more and more manufacturers are offering pants in different lengths (short or long). This is usually specified on the product sheet. For children, we also have a collection adapted to motorcycle riding.

  • How to choose the right motorcycle jacket?

A motorcycle jacket is an essential accessory for safe riding. Bear in mind that in the event of a fall, the upper limbs are most at risk of serious injury. What are the criteria for choosing your motorcycle jacket?

    - Usage? If you ride every day, whatever the weather, opt for a textile jacket with a waterproof membrane, or even a removable thermal lining. If you only get out on the bike for a ride or to fool around with friends, a leather motorcycle jacket is more appropriate. What's more, you'll be able to match the style of your bike: custom, vintage, racing... If you're more of an adventure rider, you'll need a textile jacket with waterproofing and ventilation. Brands such as Rev'it and Klim have developed high-performance products for touring the globe. In summer, opt for a mesh jacket that still includes protection.

    - Jacket or blouson? A jacket stops at the waist, whereas a blouson is longer and covers the hips or even mid-thigh. If you're looking for something to wear to work every day and cover up your suit jacket, a long jacket would be ideal. In general, jackets are more roadster or sports-oriented. If you're traveling or going on an adventure, you're more likely to opt for a jacket than a blouson. After that, the most important thing is that you feel comfortable.

    - Technical and practical aspects are important to observe. Depending on your riding style, you'll need to pay close attention to the number of pockets, the quality of the zips (YKK is preferred for its robustness), the quality of the thermal lining if you're riding in winter (Primaloft, Thinsulate, fleece, alu...), the waterproof membrane (with a preference for Goretex if your budget allows), the adjustments to adjust the garment to your morphology, the ventilation if you want to use the jacket in all seasons, the protections and their flexibility...

    - Sizing? For each brand, we try to provide a sizing guide with the measurements supplied by the manufacturer. If you're between 2 sizes, opt for a larger size. If you wear an airbag underneath, take this into account unless the garment is already designed for this device. If in doubt, please contact us via our contact form.

Motorcycle rider equipment

Biker equipment by type

When it comes to equipment, everyone has their own tastes and needs. But one thing is certain: it's essential to be well equipped, whatever the weather and whatever your riding style.

Helmets

The first piece of rider equipment that comes to mind is, of course, the motorcycle or scooter helmet. Not only is it compulsory to ride freely, it's also the only helmet that can protect your head in the event of a fall. A must-have.

Upper body

To protect you in the event of an accident or fall, as well as from the cold, wind and other inclement weather, your upper body must be equipped. Motorcycle jackets, leather or Gore-Tex® jackets, airbag vests, thermal clothing... There's a wide range of motorcycle equipment to choose from.

Lower body

As with your upper body, it's important to take care of your lower body, your legs. Waterproof pants, motorcycle jeans, knee protection suits... We offer a wide choice.

Feet/hands

With speed, the extremities of your body are put to the test. Cold, wind, dust, branches, stones... It's best to protect your hands and feet. You can opt for motorcycle boots or specific footwear, motorcycle gloves, heated gloves, thermal socks...

Face

When you're riding, your face is in the foreground. Balaclava, neckband, motocross mask... There's a whole range of motorcycle equipment to protect you and keep you warm.

At Ixtem Moto, you'll find all the riding gear you need to take care of yourself and protect you in the event of a fall. Don't hesitate to ask us for advice.
