Do I need more layers to keep warm?
The last thing you want is more layers. It's the wrong reflex. Looking like a Michelin man is uncomfortable when riding a motorcycle, and from a thermal point of view, it's heresy. By piling on layers, you'll sweat and then get cold. We can assure you that you'll get cold.
The golden rule is 3 layers. A first technical layer close to the body, thicker or thinner depending on your needs, a second such as a warm vest (polartec, fleece...) or windproof jacket, and finally your waterproof motorcycle jacket. That way, you're guaranteed to stay warm. For waterproofing, opt for Gore-Tex for the best breathability.
