How to choose a motorcycle lock?

Ideally, a good motorcycle or scooter lock should enable you to attach your bike to a fixed point. This will prevent your bike from being lifted and loaded into a van. Unfortunately, this is a fairly common practice. With the development of technology, you can add a tracker to locate your motorcycle in the event of theft. An alarm with circuit breaker is an additional deterrent. Between a motorcycle with a single anti-theft device and one with several, thieves will choose the easier option.

What is an SRA-approved anti-theft device?

When you left your insurer's office, you may have been asked to present the invoice for an SRA-approved mechanical anti-theft device, but what is this thing? SRA stands for Sécurité et Réparation Automobile. It's an association under the French law of 1901, which brings together a number of insurers.

This association has developed very precise specifications to define the level of resistance of all types of anti-theft devices. Whether they are mechanical (U, disk blocks, chain, etc.) or electronic, they are tested in laboratories. These tests enable insurers to verify the quality of the lock. An SRA-approved motorcycle or scooter lock is therefore a guarantee of safety.

The "SRA Class" logo is affixed to the product on completion of these tests.

At Ixtem Moto, we always recommend an SRA-approved product as your main lock. On the other hand, this is less important for a secondary lock.

You love your motorcycle or scooter, and you don't want to see it stolen or damaged. There's nothing worse than returning to the parking lot to find your vehicle missing. Fortunately, there's an effective solution to motorcycle, scooter and quad theft: the anti-theft device! There are different types of motorcycle locks, which we present below. You'll need to choose a reliable lock that's compatible with your machine.

U-shaped locks

The most robust and effective of all locks. Its robustness makes it very difficult to cut or break. They come in a range of sizes and diameters to suit every vehicle. Accessories are available for easy transport of your U-lock.

The disc lock

Very practical to take with you because of its reduced size, the disc block is a solution to be favored for short stops or to complete your second anti-theft device. As the name suggests, it attaches to the brake disc, preventing the motorcycle from rolling. Your motorcycle will not be hooked to a fixed element (a pole, etc.) and remains vulnerable.

Motorcycle chain

The motorcycle chain is the most frequently used anti-theft solution among motorcyclists. Why? Its practicality and size. All you have to do is hook your chain to a fixed anchor point and connect it to your motorcycle. The drawback: its weight.

SRA approval

If you want to protect your two-wheeler effectively, we recommend you opt for an SRA-approved anti-theft device. You'll have no more problems with your insurance thanks to this approval, which guarantees the quality of certification.

Motorcycle alarms

If you want to dissuade potential thieves or vandals, you can choose to install an alarm in addition to your anti-theft device. By emitting a loud signal, it helps protect your two-wheeler. It can be connected to your telephone. You'll receive an alert on your smartphone in the event of a problem or attempted theft. You can also equip your bike with a GPS tracker. This will enable you to geolocate your motorcycle, scooter or quad on your phone as soon as it's on the move.
