  • Can I ride on a track with a modular helmet?

    The answer is quite simple. The answer is no. You can't ride on a track with a modular helmet, even when closed.

  • Can you roll an open chinstrap with a modulable?

    Yes and no. It all depends on your helmet's certification. In Europe, all helmets are ECE 22-05 and soon ECE 22-06 approved. This does not mean that you can ride with your chin strap open. To be able to ride with the chin strap open, your modular motorcycle helmet must be P/J approved. In this case, your helmet has both jet and full-face approval. This means you can ride with your nose to the wind. This is the case, for example, with the Shoei Neotec II. Dual-approved modular helmets can be identified by the mechanism that locks the chin strap in the up position.

  • Is it easier to wear glasses with a modulable?

    Yes, it's much easier to put on goggles with a modulable, because you don't have to remove them to put on your motorcycle helmet. All you have to do is put your modulable helmet in the open position, slide it over your head and you're ready to go.

What you need to know about modular helmets

Modular helmets have long been among the heaviest on the market. Today, thanks to the efforts of manufacturers, this trend is set to diminish, and we can now find modular helmets whose weights are similar to those of some full-face helmets.

Modular helmets offer the 2 usual types of fastener:

  • Double D buckle: more secure and solid. Requires prior practice.

  • Micrometric buckle: quicker and easier to use.

Is it legal to ride with chin strap up?

A question that often comes up when talking about modular helmets is whether it's legal to ride with the chin strap up.

To answer this question correctly, it's important to understand the relevant legislation.

  • If "P" approval: no, you can only ride with the visor down, as it is approved as a full-face helmet only.

  • If double "P/J" approval: yes, you can use your helmet in jet or full-face mode, as it is also approved as a jet helmet.

A wide range of accessories are available for modular helmets, including mufflers and pinlock shields.

For those who need to take off and put on their helmet regularly to show their face on the road (e.g. to get into their office parking lot). With a modulable helmet, all you have to do is raise the visor, and that's it. Time-saving and comfortable.
